Oud-Schoonebeek |

Crashlanded near Oud-Schoonebeek, NL. It was shot down by FLAK near the bombing target in NW Germany. During the return to the UK the aircraft, severely damaged, lost one of its engines and the crew was forced to make an emergency landing. They landed near Oud Schoonebeek and the surviving 3 crew members were arrest and became prisoner. One of the crewmembers, Navigator Anthony Carter, sadly died by FLAK hits. He was buried at the cemetery at Schoonebeek. Below pictures which were taken by me at the nice exhibition by SLO Drenthe at Schoonebeek on May 5th, 2025 showing some found atributes as well as a photo taken of this crashlanded Hampden (SLO Drenthe collection). Also a picture is shown of Anthony Carter’s grave which I made at the Schoonebeek cemetery on May 5th, 2025. More information about this incident can be found on the wonderful SLO Drenthe website here and also at the SGLO website here: T1360. |
